Crater Lake

Crater LakeCrater Lake is one of the state’s most recognizable and astounding sites. Located at the top of an ancient, collapsed volcano in a 2,000 foot deep caldera, Crater Lake is a truly unique destination. Though no rivers run in or out of the lake, precipitation alone has made it the deepest lake in the United States and the 7th deepest in the world. Hikers, bikers and adventurers travel to Crater Lake for the lush and rare environment with beautiful trails and vistas. The lake’s shoreline is a circle shape, providing panoramic views at every turn of the over 20 mile long trail system.

Crater Lake is also known for the “Old Man of the Lake”, a log which has been floating  upright in the cold waters for over 100 recorded years. The log has become a familiar sight for frequenters of the lake and has been well preserved over the last century thanks to the clean water and cold temperatures. Weather at Crater Lake can be extreme when compared to lower elevation temperatures in Oregon. The caldera experiences heavy snowfall during the winter months and continued rain throughout the summer. This humid environment has given Oregon one of its most picturesque high-elevation destinations.

With convenient Best Western locations though out the Klamath Valley and mountainous regions, you’re sure to find a relaxing retreat to follow each day of adventure and learning at Crater Lake.
